Chris and Toni Dimas, both committed school teachers serving Cobb County, Georgia, are navigating an exceptionally challenging chapter in their lives. Already tasked with homeschooling their children, they were thrust into emotional turmoil when their 6-year-old son, Josiah, was diagnosed with leukemia. The family, originally from Houston, Texas, had to quickly adjust to this life-altering reality.

Josiah’s low cell count immediately signaled to doctors that leukemia was a concern. His subsequent diagnosis and immediate initiation of treatment were followed by complications such as stomach issues and extreme heartburn. The family has been navigating this harrowing journey ever since.

Chemotherapy has transformed Josiah emotionally and physically, making him appear like a 13-year-old in a 6-year-old’s body. Struggling with extreme hunger, irritability, and the debilitating side effects of his treatment, Josiah grapples with experiences and emotions that he cannot fully comprehend.

Currently, Josiah is receiving specialized treatment, a rigorous medical path that the family walks together. During these trying times, the Dimases find strength and comfort in their community. They are active members of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Douglassville, where they’ve formed close-knit relationships that offer them a measure of solace. Additionally, the family has received invaluable support from the Helping One Guy community, which has rallied around them during this challenging period.

Juggling their roles as educators, caregivers, and parents, Chris and Toni continue to provide a loving and educational environment for their children. Their resilience and the support from friends and community stand as a testament to the strength of the human spirit, even in the face of unimaginable hardship.
