About Us

We Lend a Helping Hand Through Dinner Gatherings

Helping One Guy (HOG) hosts dinners in Kennesaw, Georgia at NorthStar Church. Every other month, we honor men, along with their families, who are experiencing the most challenging crisis of their life. Examples of their crisis could be a terminal illness, loss of an immediate family member, or some other non-material tragedy.

Each chapter has one recipient every other month. The HOG Dinner is a time to show support and encouragement to each month's recipient and his family. One way we pledge support to this individual is by presenting him with a monetary gift that resulted from a collection of funds from the people in attendance have given. After the funds have been collected, 100% of the donations go directly to the recipient. Each donation is suggested as a $10 to $20 gift.

The money itself is not intended to be the main gift; it is just a tangible sign of the love and support behind it. At the dinner, the recipient randomly chooses the next recipient from a box of nomination forms that have been filled out by those in attendance at the dinner.

Helping One Guy Through Christ

Although each chapter has only one “recipient” every other month, everyone in attendance is impacted by these dinners in a very meaningful way. Each HOG Dinner provides opportunities for the community to connect with new people and reconnect with ongoing friendships while old connections are strengthened. The HOG Dinner is very uplifting and we all leave inspired and encouraged to do even more good for the next recipient.

It’s always refreshing to look beyond our own needs and circumstances. Seeing the strength of men who are enduring challenges that are more trying than our own helps put things in perspective for us. Oftentimes our personal struggles don’t seem as big in light of what others are going through. Seeing these examples of faith and endurance helps give us hope and confidence, as we continue our own journeys. It also inspires us to spread that same encouragement and hope to someone else.
